Your Doctor has been thinking about fellowships and early career support. More than half his life ago Your Doctor was awarded an SRC (pre EPSRC) Advanced Fellowship. This afforded a level of independence previously not enjoyed and some time to devote to larger initiatives. One of the things Your Doctor completed at that time was a textbook on theory and applications of some branch of maths that is still relevant today. The fellowship also allowed time for interactions with industry - twenty long years before the 'impact agenda' was born. As a result of this Your Doctor left academia for industry.
