Jack McCarthy (pictured), who was one of the first cohort of apprentices to be trained at the AMTC - part of the Manufacturing Technology Centre - will compete at the World Skills competition in Russia later this month, having successfully competed in World Skills UK to win his place. In an interview with the BBC, Neil Bentley-Gockmann - CEO of World Skills UK, the country's leading skills charity - said: "Skills are integral to the UK economy. There is nothing more important to the UK's future than having an economy that's functioning and internationally competitive. My message to the new Prime Minister is that we need a skills upgrade, and it needs to be world-class in technical education.
