Toyota has released more details of its next-generation Mirai fuel cell electric vehicle, which it says will extend the driving range by up to 30% thanks to its new three-tank layout and a fully redesigned fuel cell system. Toyota has also revealed plans to build a prototype 'city of the future' at the base of Mount Fuji, as a fully connected ecosystem powered by hydrogen fuel cells. Toyota introduced its Mirai saloon in 2014 [FCB, November 2014, p1], and has now sold around 10 000 in various markets around the world, especially in Japan and California [April 2019, p5, and see also the In Brief item on page 5]. Then last autumn, at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, Toyota provided an early glimpse of the advances it is making with the new Mirai, in terms of technical excellence, dynamic performance, and desirable design [November 2019, p2].
