Canadian producers and Alberta provincial officials are hoping to receive some federal assistance from Ottawa in the form of a liquidity package to support the oil and natural gas sector that is reeling from historic low oil prices and the COVID-19 pandemic. Alberta Premier Jason Kenney and his Minister of Energy Sonya Savage were among those addressing an annual symposium by Scotiabank and the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) on provincial and federal efforts to see that the oil and gas industry weathers the difficult period. They both mentioned that some sort of federal aid to improve liquidity in the upstream sector is expected in the days to come, and CAPP President and CEO Tim McMillan said a liquidity package from Ottawa is urgently needed.
