This review of virtual speech therapists for speech disorders suffers from limited data and Methodological issues

Design: The authors designated this as a ''systematic review." However, this may be more accurately described as a "scoping review" (see commentary below) Data sources and search strategies: Research articles were searched using the following databases (Medline, PubMed, ProQuest Central, Web of Science, Allied and Contemporary Medicine, Informa Healthcare, Wiley Digital Library, Taylor & Francis, Springer, ScienceDirect, lEEXplore, ACM Digital Library, SpeechBite, GoogleScholar). The authors provided an exhaustive list of search terms for types of disorders including speech disorder*, language disorder*, dysarthria*, dyslalia*, artic-ulat*, disorder*, phonological disorder*, stutter*, apraxia, hearing impair*, hearing disorder*, deaf*, hard of hearing*, aphasi*, voice disorder*, childhood apraxia of speech. They also used various terms for technology such as virtual speech ther-ap*, computer-assisted therap*, computer-assisted instruction, computer-based intervention, computer-aided therapy, multimedia and e-learning. Combinations of the terms addressed above were also adopted. The search was limited to studies published in the English language between 2004 and 2014. Studies such as control trials, randomized control trials, cohort studies, case series, and case reports including qualitative semi-structured interviews were included in this systematic review.
