Energetic use of scrap tyres has been restricted: Cement plants have to switch fuels

The use of alternative fuels (AF) in Germany was previously regulated by aspects of the country's laws of life-cycle management (Kreislaufwirtschaftsgesetz-KrWG). Above all, it enabled industrial companies with high energy requirements to use AF, including scrap tyres in the production of their products, including cement. But the so-called 'heating value regulation' was abolished on 1 June 2017. This means, among other things, that scrap tyres are now increasingly recycled rather than used energetically. This affects the supply of a reliable high-heating value fuel for cement plants. In the future, companies will have to pay particular attention to the high quality of the waste and have it checked regularly in the laboratory. In order to meet these requirements, Erdwich Zerkleinerungssysteme GmbH now offers equipment that automatically takes representative samples of the fuel material and processes them for laboratory use.
