The invention relates to a method for the energetic use of substitute fuels, in particular waste, which comprises a pyrolysis of the substitute. It is proposed that the resulting pyrolysis coke in a firing installation 10 (fig. 1) is constructed as from the point 11 is spatially separated, on which the resulting pyrolysis gases are used. A further aspect of the invention relates to the pyrolysis plant for the pyrolysis of substitute fuels and for supplying pyrolysis gases to a pyrolysis gas consumer to the utilization of the pyrolysis gases, wherein a furnace system 10 for the firing of the resulting pyrolysis coke is provided, which is spatially separated from the pyrolysis gas consumer.
