ArcelorMittal Indiana Harbor East No. 7 Blast Furnace Casthouse Tapping Equipment Upgrades

Between 2015 and 2017, ArcelorMittal upgraded its casthouse tapping equipment at the No. 7 Blast Furnace. The decision was made to upgrade the equipment to improve reliability, performance and campaign life for the taphole drills and clay guns. Since implementing these upgrades, the return on investment has been recognized in several areas, including equipment reliability, campaign life and clay savings. This paper will discuss how several modifications were made to the existing casthouse tapping equipment without the need to take any extended outages to implement the improvements.
