While the innovations dragging the mining industry into the twenty-first century come from companies of all sizes, the movers and shakers in the engineering and consulting space in Quebec have a decidedly international footprint. As service companies in the mining industry go, few have a global reach that compares with SGS, with 14,000 of its 95,000 employees dedicated to the minerals sector, 2,400 offices and laboratories around the world and operations in 14 locations across Canada. SGS' newest sample preparation facility opened in Val-d'Or in July 2018 and is being used as a base for its geological consulting services, an area that SGS intends to expand in 2019, according to Daniel Leroux, global business manager from SGS' Blain-ville office in Quebec.
