Venezuelan President Nicolas Madura's move to pardon 110 political prisoners has, in one fell swoop, split the country's political opposition in the lead-up to critical parliamentary elections scheduled for December. Madura's pardon came as part of a package that saw Henrique Capriles, an opposition leader and two-time presidential candidate, announce a decision to participate in the December elections, destroying what little was left of the legitimacy of the self-proclaimed and US-backed acting president, Juan Guaido.
