ExxonMobil defeats New York in climate lawsuit

A state judge has dismissed a high-profle lawsuit in which New York prosecutors accused ExxonMobil of misleading investors about the business risks it faced because of climate change. Prosecutors failed to show that ExxonMobil’s previous dis- closures of its climate-related risks misled any investors, the judge said in a ruling yesterday. The decision marks a decisive victory for the oil company against a years-long investigation and subsequent lawsuit it said was “baseless” and politically motivated.
