China's January-July cement production declines

China's cement output in January-July declined from a year earlier, mainly on the impact of Covid-19, although output in July increased. China's cement manufacturing sector is a major consumer of thermal coal. The country produced 1.22bn t of cement in January-July, a decline of 3.5pc from a year earlier, according to China's main economic planning agency the NDRC. But output in July increased by 3.6pc from a year earlier to 218mn t, suggesting a recovery in the sector.
