Steel associations call for ‘urgent’ capacity drop

In a landscape of global steel overcapacity, 19 global steel associations from across the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia came together to call for action to extend the mandate of the Global Forum on Excess Capacity in Steel at the G20. “Unfortunately, capacity reductions and concrete actions to remove government measures that distort the market, in- cluding the raw materials market, have not been adequate so far,” the group said. “Government eforts to eliminate prac- tices that encourage excess capacity should be redoubled.”
