Firm coal shipments last month from the Queensland port of Abbot Point were more than ofset by lower volumes from the other three key coal terminals in the east Australia state, resulting in a 7pc drop in total shipments in August compared with a year earlier. Abbot Point shipped 3.06mn t of coal in August, a three- year high. It was 19pc higher than the 2.58mn t shipped in July and 58pc higher than the 1.94mn t in August last year.
