Beijing plans to shift the onus of hitting national electric vehicle sales targets onto vehicle manufacturers and local governments in a push to hit aggressive market expansion goals. The central government wants to wean electric vehicle manufacturers off state production subsidies. They have already been slashed by 20pc this year, from around Yn25,000/ unit ($3,700/unit) for pure electric vehicles in 2016, and are likely to fall further in 2018.
