Colombia ships first coke cargo to Japan

Colombia exported its first petroleum coke cargo to Japan as the South American country seeks to expand its footprint into new markets. Ecopetrol’s 165,000 b/d Cartagena refinery, known as Reficar, exported 10,000t of coke to Japan in October, the first cargo shipped to the nation, according to a shipping agency. Reficar also exported a 38,500t coke cargo to China during the month. China has been the dominant buyer of Colombian coke since the country became an exporter in April last year, following Reficar’s start-up. The refinery is the only coke producer in Colombia. US trading firm Koch Carbon markets the product.
