Bunker group predicts sulphur cap compliance

The best indication of potential compliance with the 2020 bunker fuel sulphur cap should come from the 5pc transgression experienced in the European emission control area (ECA), according to the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA). The industry body said there are valid reasons to be concerned about compliance with the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) 2020 sulphur cap, but the evidence from existing low-sulphur zones indicates that most vessels will abide by the regulations, it said yesterday.
