Power use in China’s Sichuan province hits record

Electricity demand in China’s Sichuan province reached record highs during hot weather over the weekend, which supported thermal power demand and encouraged local power plants to stockpile more coal. Peak load in Sichuan reached a historical high of 37.25GW on 12 August, according to the Sichuan subsidiary of state- owned power company National Grid’s electric power control centre. This marked the highest peak load on record for the province, erasing last year’s all-time high.
