Prices for US-origin petroleum coke on a delivered-China basis jumped this week as importers received exemptions from pun- ishing tarifs imposed as part of the US-China trade war. The efective drop of 25-27.5pc in tax costs pushed cfr prices for <2pc sulphur coke up by $12.50/t to $102.50/t, the highest since 21 August. The fob US west coast price for this grade jumped even more sharply, up by $18.50/t to $77.50/t as a handful of deals concluded in the mid- to high-$70s.
