Indian state-controlled mining company Coal India (CIL) plans to produce 8pc more coal in the April 2019-March 2020 period from a year earlier in an attempt to curb rising imports of steam coal. CIL plans to produce around 655mn t in this fscal year compared with a record 607mn t in 2018-19, which was an increase of 40mn t from the previous year but below the company’s revised 652mn t target, CIL said. The frm typically falls short of output targets as the production plan is decided by the coal ministry.
