Alberta carbon trading plan gets federal nod

Canada’s federal government is letting Alberta move ahead with its plan to put a price on industrial greenhouse gas emis- sions. The Canadian environment ministry on 5 December said the Alberta program meets federal benchmarks for carbon pricing for 2020, meaning the province’s major emitters will not be subject to a federal backstop program next year.
