As the world's second-largest natural gas producer, Russia holds leverage over its European customers by threatening to stop gas supplies. Not only has this caused discord amongst its European buyers, but they were reportedly 'dismayed' to learn Russia has been funding anti-fracking protests across the continent to prevent Europeans developing their own supplies.
