The Organic waste, coir pith from the coconut husks dumped in huge amounts tends to cause soil pollution due to the release of leachate from the coir pith for years together. This disposal has become traditional leading to various environmental problems.This leaching process during rainy seasons will tend to cause the release of leachate that mix with the common water sources and increases the water parameters and makes it unfit for use. This indicates the necessity for the treatment of leachate beforemixing it into the water sources and degrades the coir pith quickly. Hence, the coir pith can be used for agricultural purposes after the perfect degradation. In this research, fresh coir pith collected were treated with Rock phosphate (-Organic method); Urea (- chemical method); Clostridium perfringens (-biological method) for the reduction of EC in coir pith. The leachate obtained from the biological treatment of coir pith showed high tendency to reduce the EC, TDS and showed reduced values of leachate parameters. This is an eco-friendly method which helps in elimination of difficulties in using the fresh coir pith for agricultural purposes.
