摘要

A modeling suite addresses key knowledge gaps to improve the prediction and evaluation of offshore systems for improved spill prevention and more. The Deepwater Horizon disaster in 2010 released more than 130 MM gal of oil into the Gulf of Mexico (GoM) over 87 days and is the largest accidental marine oil spill to date. Teams of experts assembled to mitigate the catastrophe, but rapid emergency response and control efforts were hindered by inadequate tools and large uncertainties associated with this extreme offshore play.
