Growth and Optical Characterization of Doped Triglycine Sulfate (TGS) Crystals

Triglycine sulfate (TGS), (NH_2CH_2COOH)_3 ? H_2SO_4, crystal is an important classical ferroelectric material. The b-cut TGS crystal plays a vital role in the fabrication of uncooled infrared detector and FT-IR instrumentation etc. TGS crystals doped with L-alanine and L-alanine +Nd(lll) were grown from aqueous solution by slow cooling of the saturated solution in an especially designed crystallizer. All-important optical constants have been determined for the first time via UV-VIS transmission spectroscopy for pure and doped TGS b-cut crystals in the ferroelectric phase. The ultraviolet-visible spectra showed that the grown crystals have wide optical transparency in the entire visible region. The Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy has been recorded in the range 500 to 4000 cm~(-1) and functional groups of grown crystals have been identified.
