Children Awareness of a Common Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases: Is a Single and Small Community Based Study a Realistic Approach?

Introduction: Community and Family Case Studies (CFCS) is an important component in the curriculum for the undergraduate medical students at School of Medical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Health Campus Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia.Methodology: We conducted a simple prospective small study using visual and verbal cues in assessing the level of knowledge and awareness of the three common ear, nose and throat diseases namely allergic rhinitis, otitis media with effusion and tonsillitis and tonsillar hypertrophy among school students in an orphanage.Results: The results showed good increment of the knowledge and awareness of the three aforementioned diseases after the intervention programme.Conclusion: A simple and small study can be effective in educating the school children on important health topic.
