DRIVERLESS, FULLY AUTOMATED VEHICLES ARE LIKELY FURTHER AWAY THAN SOME WOULD HAVE YOU BELIEVE - IF THEY EVER ARRIVE AT ALL FOR ROUGHLY 130 years humans have been in charge of the steering wheels, throttles, and brakes in our road-going vehicles; it's all been up to us - for better and for worse. Today, though, the future envisioned as long ago as the 1939 World's Fair is nearly here. Computers are poised to pilot us wherever we want to go with no human intervention necessary. In fact, in a few select areas they're already doing just that (see sidebar).
