In response to the coronavirus outbreak, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is fast-tracking requests by companies to add emerging viral pathogen claims to the labels of surface disinfectants. The EPA normally allows companies to make efficacy claims against new pathogens— such as SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19—if they have been pre-regis-tered in line with its emerging viral pathogens guidance.
