China’s spherical graphite market dips on weak demand, flake graphite flat

The price of spherical graphite has dropped to a two-year low amid weakening demand in the major markets in Japan and South Korea. Flake graphite prices have stalled, meanwhile, with market participants reporting a low level of liquidity. Fastmarkets’ latest assessment of the price for graphite, spherical, 99.95% C, 15 microns, fob China, was $2,200-2,350 per tonne on Thursday July 2, down from $2,300-2,400 per tonne in the previous assessment. Sluggish demand from the downstream new energy vehicles (NEVs) market forced producers to cut prices to attract businesses. There was some trading activity on the spot market, but it was for low volumes, according to a producer in China.
