China’s large flake graphite prices dip on limited spot demand

Sluggish demand from the seaborne and domestic markets pressured prices for large flake graphite in China down this week, while the small flake market stalled with participants saying the price is close to the cost line. Fastmarkets’ latest assessment for graphite flake 94% C, +80mesh, fob China (+894) stood at $890 per tonne on Thursday July 30, $10 down from last week and the first downward movement in 11 months. The price had been steady since rising by $5 per tonne on June 18. Prior to that, the price had been gradually rising since March. The price for graphite flake 94% C, +100 mesh, fob China fell to $760 per tonne on Thursday, from $765 per tonne the week before and the fourth consecutive weekly decline.
