摘要

The present study was conducted on 10 clinical cases of horses to evaluate xylazine-ketamine-isoflurane and xylazine-guafenesin-ketamine-isoflurane combinations for general anaesthesia. All the animals were randomly divided into two groups each having5 animals. In group I xylazine was given as preanaesthetic agent while in group II xylazine and guaifenesin were used. Induction of anaesthesia was done by ketamine (2.2-5 mglkg b.wt) in both groups and isoflurane (2.2-4%) was used as maintenance agent.Sedation and analgesia was adequate in both groups while muscle relaxation was more in group II. Xylazine-guaifenesin was found to be better preanaesthetic combination in terms of induction quality, clinicophysiological, haematobiochemical parameters and recovery quality as compared to xylazine alone.
