In response to lobbying efforts by the Massachusetts Energy Marketers Association(MEMA),the Massachusetts House of Representatives did not act favorably on two legislative proposals-Senate 2500 and House 3983-that would have paved the way for carbon taxes on heating oil and propane,and alter state building codes in favor of widespread electrification of homes using heating oil and propane.MEMA has been closely tracking climate change legislation since last January when Senator Michael Barrett(Lexington)introduced Senate 2500 and called for the demise of the heating oil industry.As the state legislature tried to finish up its 2020 session by the July 31 deadline,the House engrossed a new climate change proposal-House 4933.
