摘要

An Investment casting process has been showing advancement and improvement in materials used as shell mould materials in last decades. Shell formation stage in the investment casting process is important to decide overall casting quality and cost of the product. In the present scenario, ceramic refractory materials like zirconia and silica are used as shell mould materials. Zirconia was used as a primary coating material. In present work, materials used as backup coat was collected from three different sources of waste ceramic materials. All materials contain alumino-silicate in composition. Results show improvement in properties of built-up shell mould. It gives overall cost-effective casting compared to conventional materials used in the investment casting process.
