Central Coffee Research Institutehosted 23rd Plantation Crops Symposium (PLACROSYM XXIII)

The plantation sector constitutes several economically important crops like Coconut, Arecanut, Oil palm, Cashew, Tea, Coffee, Rubber, Cocoa and an array of spices crops. India is a major producer of many of the plantation crops and the plantation sector attracts special significance because of the export earnings contributed by these crops to national exchequer. The R&D support to the plantation sector is provided by various Research Institutions of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)and Commodity Boards under the administrative control Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Commerce, Govt, of India, respectively. As the problems and prospects of the various plantation crops are common, a professional forum, 'Indian Society for Plantation Crops (ISPC)' devoted for sustainable growth and development of plantation sector was established during 1971. Since then, ISPC has been working for promotion of research oriented activities such as publication of scientific journal known as Journal of Plantation Crops (JPC); holding national and international symposia and encouraging original research by instituting various awards. Thus, the ISPC has been recognised as one of the premier scientific societies. The Plantation Crop Research Institutions under the auspices of ISPC, organized 22 Plantation Crops Symposia (PLACROSYM) on rotation basis prior to 2018, that helped to strengthen the linkages among the stakeholders of various plantation crops.
