The term mechatronics dates back some 50 years, and while its definition hasn't really varied in all that time, the way we interpret it has changed, explains Greig Cameron, DesignSpark community manager, RS Components In the late 1960s, electronics was a very different discipline, and in half a century of elapsed time the rise of the integrated circuit has redefined the way we approach almost everything. The next few decades are likely to bring even more change, not least because we are experiencing a period of closer integration between the mechanical and electronic domains.
