Universal aero kits should turn the IndyCar spotlight back on the drivers. NOW THAT THE Verizon IndyCar Series has shifted to a spectacular-looking universal aero kit, it's time the series returns the focus to the stars instead of the car. Ever since the "Era of Aero" arrived at IndyCar with the introduction of competitive aero kits designed and built by Chevrolet and Honda, the primary focus has been on "the car" and not "the stars." The kits were designed and tested in 2014, began competition in 2015 and immediately created controversy. Honda team owner Michael Andretti squawked that millions of dollars were being spent to essentially split the field in half-that the spec Dallara DW012 chassis was an outstanding platform for thrilling racing.
