Grape growers in most premium regions in Australia rely on rainfall during winter to refill the soil profile and sustain the vines through spring. Weather observations since the 1950's indicate a decline in late autumn and early winter rainfall for South Eastern Australia, where the majority of Australia's premiumvineyards are planted (Cai and Cowan 2012).
