We beekeepers are strange dudes. It seems we are obsessed withhoney. Witness me during the last honey extraction. I pour all the honey out of the extractor through the port. Then I tip up the machine, rest it on a sawhorse, and let more flow out overnight. Then I stand it upright, and with a long-handle rubber scraper, try to pry out any remaining residue. Finally, I reach in through the port with a spoon to gather any bits sticking around the opening. At that point, and only at that point, am I ready to place the extractor near my beehives and let them suck out the remainder. In fact, with any bee activity — leaving the supers atop the hive until the last possible minute, pouring bottles at exactly the right height, feeding honey that fell to the ground to the bees — I am similarly driven to obtain every drop.
