D SLR imaging is a hugely popular part of modern deep-sky astrophotography thanks to the great all-round performance of modern cameras. They are ideal for wide-field portraits of the constellations and Milky Way, as well as producing detailed deep-sky images when attached to a telescope. As with using CCD cameras and filters, DSLR images have to be stacked to produce a final result that exhibits a good signal-to-noise ratio, to keep the unwanted background noise to a minimum. Combining many sub-exposures results in the signal adding up more quickly than the noise component, which enables us to carry out extensive processing that enhances menu. You should see that the light frame is already chosen as the 'Target' image. Under the list of blending options select 'Subtract' and then 'OK' and the calibration should be complete. I usually zoom in on the image to locate any renegade pixels and ensure that the 'Preview' box is ticked. Doing this allows you to see the effect of the subtraction before clicking 'OK'. I leave the other options on their default settings. Now save the calibrated image using a different file name to prevent overwriting your original data. Apply this step to all the other light frames.
