Japan's third-quarter PKS imports down 10pc

Japanese imports of palm kernel shell (PKS) fell in the third quarter 2018, despite imports in August hitting record highs. Japan imported 305,400t in July-September, 9.9pc lower than in the third quarter of last year and down by 10.4pc from the second quarter of this year. A sharp fall in Japan's PKS imports in September more than offset August's strong receipts. Japan imported 87,900t of PKS in September, a drop of 30.2pc from August and 41pc lower than in September last year. Both Indonesian and Malaysian supply of PKS to Japan was down year on year in September.
