The amount of heat generated by biomass installations under the UK’s non-domestic renewable heat incentive (RHI) subsidy scheme grew by 15.6pc in the first quarter year on year, despite tight wood pellet supply and high pellet prices across the quarter as cold weather lifted March demand. Across all biomass installations, 1.45TWh of heat was generated and paid for in the first quarter, the highest amount for any first quarter and the second highest amount of heat generation for any quarter.
