In situ hybridization (ISH) has become a powerful tool to detect specific nucleic acids on chromosomes, in isolated cells and in tissue sections. With the expanding field of recombinant DNA technology, a variety of cDNA probes is available to detect specific mRNAs or DNAs encoding viruses, proto-oncogenes or growth factors.
