Consolidated carbon fibre-reinforced poly-etheretherketone (PEEK) laminates from Toho Tenax Co Ltd have been qualified for use in Airbus' composites-intensive A350 XWB. The laminates, called Tenax TPCL, comprise impreg nated and consolidated sheets made of several layers of woven carbon fibre fabric coated with the thermo plastic PEEK. The laminates can be heated above the melting temperature of the PEEK and then stamped in a metallic mould within a press to produce compo nents with high mechanical performance, such as the structural brackets and clips in the A350.
