I have never intentionally killed a spider, and normally do not even eject them from our house unless we have in our presence someone who suffers from arachnophobia. Fortunately, as far as I know, we do not have in our region of Greece species that can be a threat to human life. I have always understood that without spiders the earth would be waist high in pestilential insects that could do a great deal of harm. Recently, Martin Nyffler and Klaus Birkhofer* estimated that "the world's 25 million tons of spiders kill 400-800 million tons of prey per year."
