BP has unusually waded into the controversy over the award of blocks hosting its giant gas finds off Senegal calling the allegations "sensational". A BBC programme last month claimed BP paid controversial Timis Corp US $250m up-front and promised at least $9.3 Bn in royalties over about 40 years. It also reiterated the long running controversy that Timis only originally won the blocks due to payments to the brother of President Macky Sail.
