Smart Class Design to Improve the Quality of Learning Process at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta

摘要

In the era of globalization, to be able to compete in a global society, a student is required to have creativity, critical thinking skills, communicate, and collaborate, known as 4C (four Cs). In order for higher education to produce students with such qualities, the learning shouldelaborate aspects of creativity and innovation (critical thinking and problem solving), communication and collaboration (critical thinking and innovation), critical thinking and problem solving (communication and collaboration). Educators and education stakeholders should be more focus onthe problems and processes of real-world contexts, support inquiry-based learning experiences, provide opportunities for learning approaches with collaborative projects, and focus on teaching students about how to learn. In addition to learning strategies, technology also has a very importantrole in supporting 4C capabilities for students. In order to improve students’ ability in 4C, this research will design a smart class, as supporting learning process at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) which is one of the largest private universities in Indonesia. In this smartclass, all classroom management is done using automated system, equipped with a set of digital documentation tools, and supported by high speed internet networks.
