Financial Crisis 2008: Impacts on Sustainability of Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs) in Malaysia

The financial crisis in 2008 had caused a major economic recession in the markets across the globe including Malaysia. Both the profit-making organizations and non-profit organizations in Malaysia were badly affected by the crisis. This study focuses on NPOs in Malaysia and attemptsto understand the impact of the financial crisis on NPOs’ sustainability. By examining the data of 100 NPOs and employing the resource-based view theory, this study corroborated that organizational efficiency is a valuable resource to the sustainability of NPOs. The result further suggeststhat understanding the resources of NPOs can lead to the organizations’ sustainable competitive advantage.
