AN INTERVIEW WITH NICANOR PERLAS

Lastyear. author and activist Nicanor Perlaspublished the book Humanity's Last Stand: The Challenge of Artificial Intelligence: A Spiritual-Scientific Response (Temple Lodge, 2018). The book is one part of Nicanor s larger mission to awaken people tothe complex existential challenges that rapid developments in Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) are already-beginning to present to the human race and what individuals can do to meet these challenges in a wakeful way. Perlas, a Right-Livelihood (alternativeNobel Prize) winner who hails from the Philippines and once ran for president of his native country, has a background in both anthroposophy and biodynamic agriculture. It shouldn 't be a surprise then that he sees agriculture, particularly the biodynamic movement, as being at the forefront of the raising of consciousness that he feels has to happen in orderfor the human race to avoid a catastrophic encounter with the technology we have created. I spoke with Nicanor during his North American lecture tour this past summer. —Ed.
