As the A-10C has been upgraded over the years, many of the enhancements drew the pilot's attention into the cockpit - digital maps, stores management pages and targeting pod imagery. The addition of the Thales/Visionix Scorpion helmet-mounted integrated tracker (HMIT) helps get the pilot's eyes back out of the cockpit and better able to concentrate on targets on the ground, acquiring them rapidly while simultaneously scanning for enemy fire. A-10 pilots can slew their targeting pod to what they are looking at through the monocle on Scorpion. Col Leahy says, The helmet solution we have now with Scorpion is very intuitive to use.'
