摘要

Hemoglobin A_(1c) (HbA_(1c)) can be measured using different testing modalities and, depending on the method applied, several factors may interfere in its measurement, which may lead to falsely abnormal results (1-3). Between November 2009 and January 2011, HbA_(1c) blood samples of 22,371 diabetic patients were analyzed in our institution. During this period, we detected an interference in the measurements of HbA_(1c), using a HPLC ADAMS A_(1c) HA-8160 of A. MENARINI Diagnostics method, in 87 diabetic patients (51 women and 26 men) living in the island Gran Canaria (Canary Islands, Spain). HbA_(1c) whole blood measurements were performed in EDTA K3 tubes, utilizing the HPLC HA-8160 method in Diabetic mode, and calibrated in accordance with the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC) Reference Measurement Procedure.
